hyperbole
figurative language that uses an extreme exaggeration

personification
figurative language in which a non-living entity is given human characteristics

alliteration
when a series of words have the repeated first sound of a word

rhyme
when two words sound the same but have different initial sounds

rhyme scheme
the pattern with which a poem rhymes

onomatopoeia
a word that mimics the sound it is describing

imagery
vivid description that appeals to the five senses

consonance
the repetition of the same consonant sound in a series of words

assonance
the repetition of the same vowel sound in a series of words

couplet
two lines of poetry that rhyme
